Pittsburgh Has Good Chance to Be NHL Hub City for Playoffs

June 11, 2020

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - There are growing indications Pittsburgh may be selected one of the two cities to host the revised National Hockey League playoffs.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald feels the area has a strong chance.

“I think they’re pretty good . . . I think the Penguin(s) organization has really put together a pretty solid plan that I think the NHL is very positive,” said Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald tells 93.7 The Fan's brother station KDKA Radio, a strong medical community here is a big factor, as the nation emerges from the coronavirus pandemic.

Fitzgerald adds that a low COVID-19 rate in the area also helps

Pittsburgh Hockey Now’s website quote a league source saying there is a 50/50 chance between Pittsburgh and Columbus, Ohio.

Las Vegas is considered to be the other front runner.

The league is expected to pick two hub cities where all of the playoff games will be played without fans.
